SEU Mock-rebrand

SEU Mock-rebrand

In the Spring semester of 2022, for a branding course, I was tasked with coming up with three directions for a rebranding of St.Edward’s university.

Expectations: For this project, I was expected to maintain a process book, analyze and research the university, come up with a branding strategy, create three visual identities, turn those visual identities into three cohesive design systems, and finally choose one to present as a brand identity. To fully represent my brand identity I was required to include the following: primary logotype, visual language, website homepage, website secondary page, admissions brochure cover, admissions brochure spread, open house poster, homecoming postcard, stationery system, holiday card, social media posts, social media profile page, and merch.

Process:

This process took about four months, from the beginning of the semester in January until the beginning of May. During the first phase, I learned about all the work that goes into researching a brand or location when designing something for it, its important to understand and appreciate something that you’ll be designing for long-term, this process is long and tedious but luckily this section was divided up among my classmates and I.

Process:

Based on the research, next, I was tasked with deciding what I think St.Edward’s is focused on by coming up with my own mission statement for the school, keywords, imagery, and some key goals that are important to the university.

Process:

After doing this, I was then ready to come up with three design systems representing the things that I highlighted in the previous phase. After completing this phase, I then chose one design system to develop into a full brand identity.

Good Ole SEU

Vibrant SEU

SEU CO.

For this system I was trying to go for something a bit more traditional, focusing the system on the red doors at SEU.

This system focused more on the excitement that is the hilltop and the ever growing city of Austin. I wanted to evoke fun vibes through bright colors and make it feel completely different than existing branding.

For this direction, I was trying to go for something completely different as well, but just in a different vein. Inspired by art deco designs I wanted make something stylish, while maintaining a sense of professionalism.

Results:

Out of my three design systems I chose to combine the two I called SEU CO. and Vibrant Hilltop. I decided to do this because I had gotten good feedback on both systems, but one lacked professionalism and one required it.
